"Urban Angel"
(oil painting on canvas, 30X40, 2006)
"In heaven an angel is nobody in particular."
George Bernard Shaw
"A man does not have to be an angel in order to be a saint."
Albert Schweitzer
"I saw the angel in the marble and I just chiseled until I set him free."
Michelangelo
"Fools rush in where angels fear to tread."
Alexander Pope
"Urban Angel" is a picture of what I imagine a contemporary angel that dwells in an urban area should look like.
Medieval artists used to depict angels wearing the type of clothing that regular people of the Middle ages wore, Renaissance artists painted angels wearing clothes from the Renaissance period, which makes me think that it's only appropriate to depict modern angels wearing modern clothes...
