"You think I'm on my feet?"
(acrylic painting on paper, 24X36, 1999)
"I think we ought always to entertain our opinions with some measure of doubt. I shouldn't wish people dogmatically to believe any philosophy, not even mine."
Bertrand Russell
"Minds are like parachutes; they work best when open."
Lord Thomas Dewar
"I've never had a humble opinion. If you've got an opinion, why be humble about it?"
Joan Baez
"You are young, my son, and, as the years go by, time will change and even reverse many of your present opinions. Refrain therefore awhile from setting yourself up as a judge of the highest matters."
Plato
I created this painting at the time when I finally understood that people's opinions evolve with their age. As a teenager I felt that my thoughts and feelings on certain subjects could never change, because I didn't think that I could possibly change. When I approached my twenties I realized that I was becoming a different person and my opinions started to shift. Some of them did a 180 and I ended up struggling with myself, because I had to come to terms with the idea that it was OK to change my mind on things and that questioning what you deem to be the truth is a normal part of human existence. As years progressed I ended up fully embracing my doubtfulness. I doubt, therefore I am!
