On a beach

(watercolor illustration on paper, 2005)

"Anyone can look at other's eyes, but Lovers can see into each other's souls through the eyes."
Larry Latta

"And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye."
Antoine de Saint-Exupery

"To be happy with a man you must understand him a lot and love him a little. To be happy with a woman you must love her a lot and not try to understand her at all."
Helen Rowland

Just as I do with all of my other illustration artwork I came up with a story behind the characters that you see relaxing on a beach. The couple in the painting have known each other since high school and Tim was secretly in love with Laura. As often the case with teenage love he never told Laura about his feelings. He went on to college and became an engineer. She studied economics and later found a job as a researcher. Sixteen years after their high school graduation Tim ran into Laura while vacationing in Cape Cod. He asked her to dinner and she accepted. They ended up spending the rest of their vacation together.

The day before Linda was suppose to leave for home Tim took her on a romantic picnic. He was happy and sad at the same time; happy because he knew that he'll always have wonderful memories about his trip and sad because he knew that Linda lived in Seattle and wouldn't want to move to Boston to be with him. Linda looked content and calm, because she knew that she will give her notice and start looking for a job in Massachusetts as soon as she gets home.
