"Still life with two tangerines"
(oil painting on canvas, 16X20, 2001)
"Seven out of ten people suffer from hemmorhoids. Does this mean that the other three enjoy it?"
I thought that the above quote by Sal Davino was chair-appropriate...
"The more minimal the art, the more maximum the explanation."
Hilton Kramer
"It is not hard to understand modern art. If it hangs on a wall it's a painting, and if you can walk around it it's a sculpture."

I’m not a fan of painting inanimate objects. Generally if it doesn’t have a soul – I’m not interested in painting it. The ‘tangerine’ painting is a rare exception among my artwork. It’s a primitive representation of a corner of my living room circa 2001. I’m actually sitting in the chair you see in the painting as I write this sentence. The form with a dress on it has long moved out. It now dwells in my mother’s tailoring shop and I visit it from time to time.
The idea for this painting sprung out of my ‘absent-mindness’. I misplaced two tangerines that I was about to eat and found them hours later after I sat on them. Touching the back of my wet and sticky skirt I turned around and discovered the squished tangerines on my favorite chair. For some reason I thought they’d make a cool expressionistic painting…
