Tasteful painting of a nude woman laying on a bed

"Pale nude"

(oil painting on canvas, 24X36, 2007)

"The war between the sexes is the only one in which both sides regularly sleep with the enemy."
Quentin Crisp

"Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society."
Mark Twain

"No nude, however abstract, should fail to arouse in the spectator some vestige of erotic feeling, even if it be only the faintest shadow - and if it does not do so it is bad art and false morals."
Kenneth Clark

"I think it was sexier when you didn't have to take it all off."
Angie Dickinson

The Pale nude was my attempt at breaking away from my habitual bright palette. I've always been attracted to bright colors. I'm happy when I paint and when I'm not happy I paint to make myself happy. Using bright colors seems only natural when there is a direct correlation between your artwork and your mood. However, when people started telling me that they recognize my artwork from its color palette I wanted to prove to myself that I'm capable of switching to a more 'subdued' palette.

I took an old underexposed photo of myself and created a painting using very pale colors. When I was finished I kept on glancing at my creation and I was getting a strange feeling that the painting was sad. After about two weeks I couldn't contain myself any longer, so I ended up painting over parts of the painting with the bright colors that I love so much. I'm not sure about the painting, but it definitely made me much happier.
