"Seductress from the 1920's"
(oil painting on glass, 11X14, 1999)
"Don't give a woman advice; one should never give a woman anything she can't wear in the evening."
Oscar Wilde
This portrait was the very first that I painted on glass. I decided to keep a cheap flower print under the glass as a part of my creation. When I was finished it reminded me of photos of Hollywood stars in the glamour shots from the 1920's. The women in those photographs are always glamorous with an intense seductive stare meant to go straight into a man's soul. It's a shame that modern women abandoned the concept of courtship for the instant gratification of knowing that they can easily have any man. I feel that it takes away from the appreciation that their partners might otherwise feel for them.
One of my favorite quotations about women is a quotation by Erich Maria Remarque from the "Arch of Triumph". Remarque wrote: "Women should be adored or abandoned. Nothing in between." I believe that women should make sure that they are either adored or abandoned and shouldn't settle for anything in between.
